WENZHOU, China - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday that his visit to the site of the weekend crash of two high-speed trains in eastern China that killed 39 people was delayed due to his medical problems.
"Over this time I've been ill and spent 11 days on a sickbed. The doctor only today reluctantly allowed me to check out of hospital," Wen said.
Wen on Wednesday ordered a swift and transparent investigation into the weekend crash of two high-speed trains that has ignited public anger, and pledged the government would take "resolute" safety steps in its aftermath.
Chinese Internet users have flooded websites and microblogs with angry comments following the crash in eastern Zhejiang province that killed 39 people, the country's deadliest rail accident since 2008.
