WASHINGTON — US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged the people of Iran to reject what she says is an expansion of the Iranian military's role and power, in an interview to be aired on ABC on Sunday.
Clinton said the United States is increasingly concerned about the rise of military power in Iran, the main US adversary in the Middle East.
Clinton stated that many inside Iran are worried too. She told ABC's "This Week" that she hopes Iranians find a way to head off the military drift.
She said that Iran was founded as a republic, and that she hopes responsible Iranians will find a way to "take hold of the apparatus of the state."
