Communications networks go down in Syrian capital

Communications appeared to be down in the Syrian capital Sunday, coming one day after a wave of arrests of anti-government protesters, reports coming out of Damascus said. Cellular phones and the internet seemed to be disconnected but land-lines were working normally.
"There is an arrest campaign and phone lines are down so people are suspecting interference but the government says it is a technical problem," a resident from the Damascus area told AFP.
Syrian officials said that the communications failures were taking place due to technical issues, according to the report.
