Cop convicted of romance-driven crimes

The Jerusalem District Court convicted Emil Abu Halla, a policeman from Rosh Ha’ayin, Monday on charges of wrongful imprisonment, extortion, spousal abuse, forgery, fraud and breach of trust.
As part of a plea bargain, Abu Halla confessed to abducting his Palestinian girlfriend, handcuffing her to his car and threatening to harm her unless she agreed to marry him. He also confessed to providing her with a fake ID and forging a police permit allowing her to stay in Israel so he could carry on his relationship with her.
A sentence has not yet been determined.
