Crash sends motorcyclist hurling into Ayalon stream

A morning rush hour crash sent a motorcyclist in his 30s hurling into the Ayalon stream, in the middle of the Tel Aviv's major freeway on Sunday morning.
Emergency services received word of the crash shortly after 8:30 a.m., and said the bike had slammed into a vehicle, sending the rider over a separation fence, hurling into the body of water that separates the opposing lanes 12 meters below the highway.
The driver managed to survive the fall due to the cushioning effect of landing on the water, Traffic Police believe.
Motorists slammed on their brakes and rushed to the man to try and help him.
After several minutes, paramedics and firefighters reached the badly wounded man. During the rescue operation, police closed off two highway lanes, as heavy traffic built up.
Emergency services were able to hoist the man to safety, and rushed him to the Ichilov Medical Center in serious condition.
Police have asked eye witnesses to the accident to come forward, and expressed particular interest in a female driver who was in a blue Ford as a witness.
