C'tee recommends no benefits to soldiers injured on leave

The Goren Committee presented its recommendations to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday regarding benefits IDF veterans receive for injuries sustained during active service. One controversial recommendation was that soldiers injured while on furlough will no longer be given the same status as those injured in the line of duty if they were injured due to irresponsible behavior. Another recommendation pertained to one of the key benefits that the IDF disabled veterans receive a car. The committee said that cars should be given to veterans who were defined as 50 percent disabled and also then their disability would have to be evaluated.
The committee stressed that its recommendations were not to be applied retroactively, only to future cases.
