The IMA on Wednesday declared that all public hospitals on Sunday will be run according to a reduced Shabbat schedule due to a general strike.
Israel Medical Association physicians will hold a symbolic bonfire on Lag Baomer on Sunday to declare that "doctors are unwilling to continue to put out fires" in the health system. The protest will be held in the Reading parking lot in Tel Aviv between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
At the request of Ziv Hospital in Safed, which is closest to the massive Lag Baomer pilgrimage to nearby Meron that day, will be exempt from sanctions so its doctors can treat victims of burns and other injuries.
On Thursday, May 19, hospital operating rooms will again perform only oncological and other urgent surgery, with all other hospital departments functioning normally.
The IMA has held sanctions on and off for nearly two months over wages, working conditions and reorganizing the health system.
