Education Ministry accepts shortening of summer vacations

The Education Ministry on Tuesday accepted the recommendations of a committee that proposed to shorten summer vacations.
Beginning 2012, the school year will begin on August 26, instead of September 1. Although the summer break will be shortened by six days, the days will be added to holidays throughout the year such as to Hannukah and Tu B'Shvat.
The change was proposed in an effort to better organize the academic year so that students would have a smoother learning schedule between the start of the school year and the High Holidays.
