Egypt FM: Netanyahu must make painful decisions for peace

The strategic changes currently taking place in the region make a resumed peace process between Israel and the Palestinian leadership all the more pressing, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Orabi said in an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai Sunday. The foreign minister said that peace cannot afford any more delays or postponement.

Orabi, who was appointed Egyptian foreign minister after Nabil el-Araby was elected to head the Arab League on May 15, put pressure on the Israeli leadership to assume a more active role in negotiations.

He said it was up to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to implement "the argument [he has repeated] since day one in office that Israel will have to make painful decisions to make progress towards peace."

Orabi continued, "In truth, Netanyahu has not made any painful decision until now and we are waiting for his painful decisions to help achieve peace."
