Egypt opposition calls for mass protests over referendum

Egypt's main opposition coalition, the National Salvation Front, called for mass demonstrations to be held on Tuesday in protest of what it described as "large scale fraud” in the first round of the country's constitutional referendum, Egypt Independent reported Monday.
According to preliminary results, 56.5 percent of voters cast a ballot to approve the new constitution, which has divded the Arab world's most populous country to due the document's perceived Islamist influence.
Egypt Independent reported that human rights and civil society organizations demanded a repeat of the first round of the referendum, citing violations such as a lack of judicial supervision of the vote and the alleged barring of Christians from voting at some polling stations.
