Egyptian border guards kill an African migrant

RAFAH, Egypt — Border guards fatally shot an African woman and detained five others as they tried to cross the border into Israel, Egyptian officials said Tuesday.

A security official said the 38-year old Eritrean woman did not heed the warning shots, while five others, including a 4-year old child, surrendered.

A local hospital doctor said she was shot in the abdomen and left leg. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.
