Egyptian carpenter at US Embassy confirmed dead

WASHINGTON — The US said Thursday that an Egyptian carpenter at the US Embassy in Cairo who disappeared from his home two weeks ago is dead.
US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton offered condolences to the family and friends of Khairy Ramadan Aly.
The State Department is not providing details about Aly's disappearance on Jan. 28 or the circumstances of his death.
A department statement condemns violence against Egyptian civilians and says abuses against those seeking to exercise basic freedoms must stop.
