Egyptian helicopter pilot accidentally strayed into Israel

An Egyptian helicopter pilot accidentally strayed into Israeli airspace in the South on Wednesday, a defense source said.
The incident took place over an area that has no marked land border, and is not being treated as a suspicious, the source added, contradicting a report that appeared Thursday in Yedioth Aharonoth, which cites an Air Force official as saying that the flight was being viewed as possible intelligence gathering mission.
Israeli Air Force jets were scrambled to the area and made radio contact with the pilot. "As soon as he was alerted that he crossed the border, he returned," the source said. "There was no problem here," the source added.
In Yediot's account of the event, the pilot was unresponsive to radio calls, and hovered in Israeli air space for several minutes.
"This type of thing happens on occasion. an Israeli [civilian] pilot accidentally strayed into Egypt only two days ago," the source said.
The IDF filed an official complaint with Egyptian authorities in line with standard procedure for this type of incident.
