Eilat has become significant target for Hamas, Hizbullah

Security officials have said that, according to initial estimates, members of the Global Jihad terror network are responsible for the rocket fire from Sinai into Eilat and Aqaba, Israel Radio reported Saturday.

In addition, defense officials announced that Eilat has become a significant target for Hamas and Hizbullah.

According to the officials, a strong connection exists between Hamas and terror groups in Sinai. Hamas has also been attempting to infiltrate Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip.

Officials in the defense establishment estimate that the rocket fire was aimed at specific targets in Eilat. Following the fire, the Home Front Command will debate a proposal to install a rocket alert system in the city. However, the proposal will only be accepted if the frequency of rocket fire increases.
