Erdan appeals to designate open areas near Kishon River as public zone

Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) appealed on Sunday in a letter to Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and head of the Israel Land Authority Yaron Bibi to act on their authority and designate the open areas adjacent to the Kishon River banks as a public zone managed by the Kishon River Authority. The grounds by the riverside, which contain nature and landscape treasures, are currently state-owned but can be made into open public grounds, Erdan noted in his letter, following river preservation principles as ratified in recently approved national master plans, as well as the Kishon River master plan. "The growing crowdedness in the urban sphere forces us to act in order to preserve open and green zones for the benefit of the public. A few days ago, I toured the area and to the best of my understanding, Haifa Bay can be developed, as it ought be, while maintaining the important public interest of open and green zones in the Haifa Bay," Erdan said.
