Erdan: relocate factories away from population centers

Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan called on the government to look into ways to relocate factories away from population centers during a tour of the Hod metal factory in Acre on Tuesday.

A fire which broke out at the factory on Saturday caused a great plume of black smoke to blanket the area. Residents were asked to stay indoors for several hours although harmful levels of pollutants were not detected. It took more than a day to finally quell the flames.

Erdan said the ministry was committed to conducting its investigation as quickly as possible and then pressing charges if warranted. He also demanded that the factory stop its internal investigation into the incident lest they contaminate evidence the Green Police required for their investigation.
