Finance C'tee members boycott budget cuts meeting

Every single member of the Knesset Finance Committee skipped out on a Tuesday meeting to trim the 2012 budget by 740m. NIS, leaving committee chair Moshe Gafni speaking to an empty room, Globes reported.
As a result, Gafni decided to cancel the vote on the issue altogether. "I will not pass cuts by myself on the eve of elections," Gafni said in a statement. "If more Knesset members in the coalition who care about a balanced budget show up, we can have a hearing on the cuts."
In recent days, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz have pressured Gafni to approve across-the-board cuts to finalize the budget by the end of December.
