Former minister Benizri's sentence reduced by a third

A parole board reduced the sentence of former Shas minister Shlomo Benizri, serving four-years for accepting a bribe, fraud, breach of faith and obstruction of justice, by 30 percent on Monday, Army Radio reported. He is expected to be released in April, 15 months ahead of schedule.
The Shas politician served as minister of health and minister of labor and welfare before being sentenced to four years in 2009.Benizri was originally sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Jerusalem District Court. However, the Supreme Court increased the sentence to four years in jail in the wake of an appeal filed by the prosecution.
