France backs humanitarian corridor in Syria

PARIS - France backs a possible humanitarian corridor in Syria and considers the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) a legitimate partner with which it wants to work, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said on Wednesday.
Asked at a news conference after a meeting with SNC president Burhan Ghalioun if a humanitarian corridor was an option in Syria, he said: "It is a point which we have examined and I will propose putting it on the agenda of the next European Council."
Juppe also said France is seeking international recognition for the SNC and that military intervention was not on the table.
"The Syrian National Council is the legitimate partner with which we want to work," he said. "We are working with the Arab League and all of our allies towards its recognition."
The SNC president said the group supported the opposition Free Syrian Army's role in protecting civilians but not for offensive actions.
