France says US debt deal needed for world economy

PARIS - The United States must reach an agreement to raise its debt ceiling and put its government finances on an even keel for the sake of the global economy, the French government's spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"We think the global economy needs an American agreement ... We need a deal not just on the question of the American debt but also on rebalancing American public finances," Budget Minister Valerie Pecresse told a news conference after a cabinet meeting which discussed the US debt stalemate.
