France to launch new search for Air France crash

PARIS  — French officials said preparations for a new attempt to locate the remains of the Air France jet that crashed into the mid-Atlantic two years ago will get under way this month.
France's transport ministry said the new search will use specialized submarines and underwater robots to search an area of about 3,900 square miles (10,000 square kilometers) to look for wreckage of flight 447, which crashed flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in June 2009, killing all 228 people aboard.
The Transport Ministry said in a statement Friday that search vehicles should be in place in the second half of March. The search is scheduled to last until July.
Three previous attempts failed to find the jet's "black box" voice and data recorders.
