France's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that two French journalists and their local guides are missing in Afghanistan. Halim Ayar, a spokesman for the governor of Afghanistan's Kapisa province, said the French journalists, their driver and a guard were kidnapped while going to Kapisa from the Surobi district of Kabul province. France-3 television said only that no contact has been established with the two journalists and their three guides since Wednesday. The ministry said in a statement that "no hypothesis can be excluded" about the cause of the disappearance. A spokesman declined to comment on the report they had been kidnapped.
