Gaddafi forces are firing mortars at Misrata, rebels say

ALGIERS - Forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi have started firing mortar rounds at a district in the west of the city of Misrata, a rebel spokesman said on Wednesday.
"They [pro-Gaddafi forces] attacked the Abu Rouia area, in the west of Misrata. They carried out intense bombardment, using mortars," the spokesman, called Safieddin, told Reuters from the city.
Government forces had previously concentrated their bombardment on areas around Misrata's rebel-controlled port, in the east of the city.
