German army chief of staff visits Yad Vashem

The Chief of Staff of the German armed forces, General Volker Wieker, visited Yad Vashem yesterday on an historic visit by the German army’s highest ranking officer to the Holocaust remembrance museum in Jerusalem.
Wieker toured the museum which commemorates the six million European Jews killed by Nazi Germany during World War II accompanied by Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi.
"I am proud to be stand here as the IDF chief of staff, side by side with the German chief of staff," Ashkenazi said. "I think this illustrates the strong ties between the two countries."
