Gov't establishes c'tee to lessen Israel's dependence on oil

The cabinet on Sunday unanimously approved a bill to establish a senior inter-ministerial committee which would devise ways to minimize Israel's dependence on crude oil.
National Economics Council head Prof. Eugene Kandel will chair the committee and submit his recommendations to the government within 120 days.
“The government sees in research, development and implementation of technology which reduces the global usage of crude oil for transportation as a national mission,” Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said as he announced the decision. “It is not only in Israel's strategic interests, but also in those of the free world.”
