Greece says Turkey harassed Italian exploration ship

The Greek Foreign Ministry complained over Turkish harassment of an Italian ship in international waters overseen by Athens, AFP reported Wednesday. The Italian ship was exploring a possible fiber optic route from Italy to Israel, and had received Greek permission to explore the waters near the Aegean island of Crete.
"The Italian vessel was harassed by a Turkish corvette in violation of the rules of international law," AFP quoted a Greek foreign ministry official as saying, adding that the Greek embassy in Ankara issued a demarche on the events to Turkish authorities, defining the Turkish harassment as illegal.
