Gronis bill passes first reading in Knesset

The Knesset on Monday approved in a first vote a bill by which Supreme Court Justice Asher Gronis would be able to replace Dorit Beinisch as Supreme Court president in February, despite his being only three years from retirement age.
After having passed the first reading by a margin of 52 to 35, the bill will be sent back to the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee where it will be prepared for a second and third vote, necessary to pass the bill into law.
