Gunfire kills several in Iran's Kurdish area

TEHRAN, Iran — An Iranian news agency reported Thursday that several people were killed and injured after gunmen opened fire on a police patrol in the Kurdish area of Iran.
The semiofficial Mehr news agency said police confirmed the attack happened in Sanandaj, the capital of Iran's Kurdistan province, some 310 miles (500 kilometers) west of Tehran.
Thursday's report did not specify the number of casualties.
