After almost a week of increasing tension between settler representatives and government officials, the Habayit Hayehudi party called Thursday evening on the National Union party to renew their historic political alliance. The two parties, largely representing the national religious camp, were merged in the previous Knesset, but separated in advance of this year's election campaign. On Thursday evening, Habayit Hayehudi party chairman and Science Minister Rabbi Daniel Hershkovitz sent a letter to National Union chairman Ya'acov Katz telling him that the two parties should merge and hold joint primaries in order to maximize their political power.
