Hanegbi hopes to keep Knesset post, won't seek new role

Kadima MK Tzahi Hanegbi held a press conference on Tuesday after his conviction on the charge of perjury by the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court to discuss his political future.
"I of course very much hope after the sentencing, I will be able to return to working with full force in public service...I have the honor of chairing the [Knesset's] Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and I hope I still can chair the committee," said Hanegbi. The Knesset member also rejected suggestions that he would seek to increase his leadership profile in the near future either in his own party or in the government.
"I don't intend to run for Kadima chair in this term. I hope to strengthen the leadership of Kadima," Hanegbi told reporters.
He also rejected the notion that he would seek the position of defense minister should Kadima join the government, saying "the current defense minister is doing a good job and should keep his post."
