Health Ministry: 50% of Israelis with H1N1 flu are under 30

About half of the 2,148 Israelis who have been diagnosed with H1N1 flu since the late spring are under the age of 30, and only five percent have been over 50, according to the latest Health Ministry statistics. The virus has hit slightly more men than women, which is true about most infectious diseases, the ministry said on Wednesday. By the end of June, two-thirds of those infected got the virus in Israel and the rest contracted it abroad. From the third week in July until now, almost 92% were infected in Israel. Most of the sick developed fever and cough; other typical symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, headaches, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and breathing difficulties were less common. So far, 29 victims have been hospitalized in intensive care, and five of these died. Nearly all of these in intensive care previously suffered from chronic or genetic illness.
