Health Ministry publicizes organ donor compensation plan

The Health Ministry Sunday publicized a plan to compensate organ doctors based on an organ donation law passed in 2008.
Donors are expected under the plan to receive reimbursement for any expenses or lost work days incurred due to post-operative recovery. The law also obligates the state to help the donor pay for health services not included in the regular basket approved by the national health funds and to acquire disability and life insurance.
The law was passed to assuage the fears of potential donors that contributing some of their organs might endanger their future health, providing them with an extended safety net.
