Health ministry, Treasury: Doctors crisis to be solved soon

Deputy Finance Minister Yitzhak Cohen, said  Friday as he left a meeting between residents and the health and finance ministries that he hoped to reach an agreement next week, Army Radio reported.
Health Ministry Director-General Professor Ronni Gamzu, reportedly announced that early next week he will meet with hospital managers, to examine how to improve conditions for residents.
The meeting followed Wednesday's Court ruling that overturned the doctor's resignations on the ground that they were made collectively. The doctors consequently went back to work but Friday morning they allegedly said they had not changed their minds about appealing to the High Court in the coming days; they said the court's decision was unacceptable and that they would demand permission to resign.
In the meantime hospital managers were apparently trying to find ways to improve residents' working conditions. Among the benefits offered to them were extra days off and shuttle buses to work, according to the report. The Finance Ministry reportedly said that the value of the benefits amount to hundreds of millions of shekels.
