Herod replica tomb unveiled in Judean desert ceremony

A dedication ceremony was held at the Herodian National Park on Sunday for the unveiling of a replica of the tomb of Herod the Great and a new gateway to the site.

Present at the ceremony were Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan, MKs Otniel Schneller, Ze'ev Elkin and Head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council Tzion Davidi Perel.

The replica tomb was designed by the late Professor Ehud Netzer, a renowned Israeli archeologist who unearthed the site of Herod’s burial in 2007 within the Herodian fortress complex in the Judean Desert south of Jerusalem.
