High Court to religious cadet: Wait for army’s response

The High Court of Justice on Wednesday said it would not interfere in the case of four religious IDF cadets expelled from the officer-training course last month after they walked out of a concert in which women were singing. Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch told Yoel Glickman, one of the cadets, that the court will wait until the army clearly establishes its policy on the matter.
Glickman claim in the petition his commander Lt.-Col. Uzi Kliger's order to return to the concert contravened the IDF directive of “appropriate integration,” which allows for religious soldiers to serve in the army in accordance with their beliefs. Beinisch said that the matter was one of interpretation. As such, she added,l Glickman should cancel his petition and wait until the IDF clarifies its position regarding whether religious soldiers can excuse themselves from an event involving women singing.
