Hizbullah says Egypt court verdicts political

An Egyptian court's verdict that convicted 26 men of spying for the group and plotting attacks in Egypt was political and unjust, Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah said Thursday.

The Hizbullah leader said the men are only guilty of offering support for militants in Gaza who are fighting Israel.

The 26 men were charged with planning attacks on tourists and shipping in the Suez Canal, and sending operatives and explosives to Gaza to aid militants there. An Egyptian court on Wednesday gave them prison sentences ranging from six months to life.

The verdict cannot be appealed.

Nasrallah said in comments distributed by Hizbullah's media office Thursday that he would seek to overturn the verdict through diplomatic channels.
