Wildfires raged out of control in western Australia on Wednesday, injuring three people, destroying more than 20 homes and threatening several others. Wildfires are common across Australian during the summer months but they rarely claim so many homes. The township of Toodyay, 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of the coastal city of Perth, was evacuated Tuesday. The fire there burned more than 6,700 acres (2,700 hectares) of forest and farm land by Wednesday and was still burning, the Western Australia state Fire and Emergency Services Authority said. A second major fire remained out of control after burning 26,000 acres (10,500 hectares) near the village of Badgingarra, 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Perth, the statement said.
