Hungarian parliament passes new constitution

BUDAPEST - Hungary's parliament approved the country's new constitution on Monday with votes only from the ruling centre-right Fidesz-KDNP which has a two-thirds majority in the house.
The new constitution was approved with 262 votes, with 44 against and one abstention. The Socialists and liberal LMP did not take part in the vote. Far-right Jobbik voted against it.
The law will take effect on Jan. 1, 2012.
