ICRC: Syrian Red Crescent in Baba Amro to evacuate needy

GENEVA - The Syrian Arab Red Crescent has entered the besieged Baba Amro district of Homs and is attempting to deliver medical supplies and evacuate people needing attention, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Monday.

"The Syrian Arab Red Crescent team are inside Baba Amro. The objective is to bring in assistance and evacuate people who need to be evacuated," ICRC spokesman Hicham Hassan told Reuters in Geneva.

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers had brought in medical supplies, mainly kits for treating the wounded, he said.

ICRC teams were in Homs but not in Baba Amro, he added.
