IEC enters 'final stretch' of summer preparations

Israel Electric Corporation is in the "final stretch" of a nationwide power plant rehabilitation operation that began in March and will conclude in June, the company said.

In light of the natural gas shortage, many overused power plants have experienced increased wear, necessitating an NIS 274 million series of renovations on the facilities. The repairs were particularly vital due to the expectation that electricity reserves will be very low this summer, and all plants must therefore operate as smoothly as possible, according to the IEC.

"In the current situation of the electricity sector, any failure or disruption in the production units are likely to cause difficulties in fulfilling electricity demands," said Eli Glickman, CEO of IEC.

Yiftah Ron-Tal, chairman of the IEC board, added that "all parties must buckle down and unite around one goal: a reliable and available electricity supply for the citizens of Israel this summer."
