India demands media censorship of planned Koran burning

India on Thursday called for "strong action" by the US to halt the planned Koran burning by Florida Reverend Terry Jones, AFP reported.
According to the report, India demanded the media censor what it called a "deplorable act."
The planned burning is "obviously calculated to increase bitterness and strife between religious groups," said Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram in a statement after a cabinet meeting.
""We hope the US authorities will take strong action to prevent such an outrage being committed," added the minister.
"While we await the actions of the US authorities we appeal to the media, both print and visual media, to refrain from telecasting visuals or publishing photographs of this deplorable act."
