India set to deport 'suspicious' Israeli couple

Two Israelis are set to be deported from India after police suspected them of "suspicious activities," Times of India reported Tuesday. The couple, Shneor Zalman and Yaffa Shenoi, will be questioned by Indian agencies before commencement of the deportation.
According to the Times report, the young Israelis arrived in India on multiple-entry visas and rented a house in Fort Kochi. The city, a major tourism hub, is next to the Mattancherry neighborhood, famous for its "Jew Town"- a historical part of western India where Jews erected their first trading outposts in the 16th century. The country's oldest synagogues are located in Fort Kochi.
Police began to suspect the young Israeli couple after they payed far higher than the market rate to rent a house, according to the Times report. After tapping their communication lines, local police say they discovered regular meetings with a group of people. "These meetings lasted for hours in the night. They were under close surveillance," according to the report.
