Iran denies army chief stated Persian Gulf Iranian property

Iran on Tuesday denied reports that the Islamic Republic's Armed Forces chief General Hassan Firouzabadi said the "Persian Gulf has belonged to Iran forever."
Iranian news agency ISNA quoted Iranian envoy to Kuwait Mohammad Shahabi as saying that Firouzabadi had been "quoted falsely."
Shahabi emphasized the importance of respecting countries sovereign rights and not meddling in other nations' domestic affairs.
The comments came amid concerns that Iran was interfering in uprisings in Syria and Bahrain.
