Iran not attending London conference on Afghan funding, gov'

Iran's official news agency said the Islamic republic is unlikely to participate in a London-based conference on its neighbor Afghanistan.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told the agency Tuesday that the conference will not be able "to help solve Afghanistan's problems."
Mehmanparast also said the presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan is part of the problem since they cannot control terrorism there.
An international conference on Afghanistan is to be held in London on Thursday to approve new funding for the Afghan government and endorse a plan for reconciliation with the Taliban.
