Iraq, Syria: Tigris river water dispute

The Iraqi government has requested that Damascus cease pumping water from the Iraqi portion of the Tigris river into Syrian territory, Channel 2 reported on Thursday.
The current pumping activity has been occurring at the joint Syro-Iraqi-Turkish border region and has drawn additional water from the river to help irrigate agricultural projects in Syria.
Sources in Baghdad claim that the pumping activity threatens to endanger Iraqi water sources and the Iraqi government has asked the Syrian authorities for a clarification regarding their activities.
