Israel-based subsidiary of German energy giant Siemens, the Siemens Solar Thermal Energy Business Unit, has won a tender to supply its UVAC 2010 solar receivers to a power plant project in Rajasthan, India. The plant will be made of parabolic troughs and will be developed by Abhijeet (Corporate Ispat Alloys Ltd), with the purchasing of the 17,000 Siemens receivers occurring through Shiram EPC. The 50-megawatt facility is expected to be up-and-running by spring 2013, according to Siemens.
“We view this first order from Shiram EPC Limited to be a demonstration of their trust in our know-how and technology,” said Shmuel Fledel, CEO of Siemens Solar Thermal Energy Business Unit, in a statement released by his office. “The Indian CSP [Concentrated Solar Power] market is rapidly developing, and with this step we strengthen our business for CSP technology.”
