Israel has taken responsibility for the assassination of Khalil al-Wazir, deputy of former PLO leader Yasser Arafat, in 1988, Yediot Aharonot
reported on Thursday.
Wazir, who is better known as "Abu Jihad", was killed in a raid in Tunis by the Mossad and Sayeret Matkal, the IDF's most elite and classified unit.
According to Yediot
, the operation's commander was Nachom Lev, who shot Wazir with a silenced handgun.
Wazir founded the PLO with Arafat and was responsible for a series of attacks against Israeli civilians.
