The German parliament said President Shimon Peres will address a special session later this month to mark the annual Holocaust remembrance day. Parliamentary spokeswoman Silke Dierkes said Friday that Peres will give a 25-minute speech in Hebrew on Jan. 27, which was established by the United Nations in 2005 as a day to remember the Holocaust. It marks the day the Auschwitz death camp in Poland was liberated by the Soviet army. Peres will be the third Israeli president to address German lawmakers. Meanwhile, Germany said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and other ministers will visit Berlin on Jan. 18 and meet Chancellor Angela Merkel. The trip originally was scheduled for November but was called off after Netanyahu fell ill.
