Italian ski jumper dies in hotel room

MILAN  — A promising 17-year-old Italian female ski jumper has died suddenly after feeling ill in her hotel room.
The Italian Winter Sports Federation said that Simona Senoner died Friday in Schonach, Germany, where she was competing in a Continental Cup meet. She was airlifted to a local hospital after her roommate discovered her collapsed, but she was declared dead upon arrival. No cause of death was given.
Senoner finished 10th in the 2008 junior worlds.
All Italian winter sports athletes were wearing black armbands on Sunday to mourn Senoner.
