Jerusalem light rail reaches new milestone over Succot

The light rail in Jerusalem reached a new milestone over Succot when the train carried 140,000 trips in one day, compared to the current average of approximately 90,000 trips.

The Blessing of the Priests (Birkat Hacohanim) held at the Kotel on Wednesday morning was the busiest time for the light rail, when tens of thousands of tourists from Israel and abroad thronged to the Old City for the traditional blessing.

The light rail ran more frequently during the Succot holiday, though residents and tourists alike dealt with crammed cars and long waits to buy tickets. Many passengers complained that the light rail was unbearably crowded during the holiday, and trains were needed on an even more frequent basis. More than one million people visited the Old City in Jerusalem during the holiday season from Rosh Hashana to the end of Succot.
